Burned, looted, and abandoned, many were left to decay as the frontier shifted and imperial control weakened. The ruins of Villa Honorius now stand as a silent reminder of Rome’s overreach: grand halls reduced to rubble, courtyards choked with debris, and authority stripped bare by war.
